Since South Boston Massachusetts 02127 (Southie) is politically part of the city of Boston we are subject to the rates handed down from the Boston Police commissioner via the Boston Police departments hackney carriage unit.
The per mile rate since 8/31/2009 is
$2.60 for the first 1/7th of a mile and then .40 cents each additional seventh of a mile thereafter. PLUS TOLLS!
Waiting time (including times the taxi is engaged with a customer waiting at red lights) is $28.00 an hour. Sometimes it pays to go a bit out of the way to avoid slow traffic and many red lights.
Passengers are responsible for all tolls encountered while riding in the taxi plus the law allows us to charge $2.75 for all trips to Boson’s north shore communities. Passengers travelling from Boston proper to East Boston are not responsible to pay the cabbies return trip toll unless they travel to massport property like Logan international airport. We would like the riding public to know that cabbies transporting passengers to East Boston are responsible to pay $5.25 to return to Boston. We would like you to consider then when calculating any gratuity.
